In celebrating this year’s Firefighters’ Day and salute to firefighters past, Nigerian firefighter Dooshima Dennis prides herself as one of those who run in when others run out in the event of a fire outbreak.
Established in 1999, the world pauses every 4th May to honour firefighters – those who run toward danger when others run away.
“Today, the flames salute us. We are the ones who run in when others run out,” Dooshima asserted before adding: “We don’t wear capes. We wear courage, soaked in sweat, smoke, and sacrifice.”
Dooshima is famous for giving fire safety tips, and as the world celebrates the 2025 Firefighters’ Day, she is not leaving anything to chance.
She paid glowing tribute to firefighters, saying: “I stand tall as a Nigerian firefighter, honouring every brave soul who dares to protect life, property, and hope.”
“From the heart of the inferno to the heart of the people, we are not just fighting fires. We are lighting the way. To my brothers and sisters in boots and helmets today, the world sees you. I salute you.”
