The Acting Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Abdulrahman, resumed office on Monday, November 3, at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, FCT.
Last week, a faction of the PDP backed by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced the suspension of the National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and five other members of the National Working Committee (NWC). National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who briefed journalists on the development, announced Abdulrahman as the Acting National Chairman.
TNT understands that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received official communication from the PDP introducing Abdulrahman as the Acting National Chairman of the party.
According to the letter, signed by Sen. Anyanwu, the PDP NWC resolved that Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, who serves as the PDP Vice Chairman (North Central), be appointed as the Acting National Chairman to replace the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum.
“The appointment of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman is in line with the party’s constitution,” the letter read in part.
“We kindly request that all necessary steps be taken to recognize him in his new capacity. We would appreciate your prompt attention and response to this decision,” it further reads.
