RFPCN, bedrock for safer, globally competitive chemical profession in Nigeria – ICCON Chemist

Date:

One of Nigeria’s distinguished scientists and a leading global expert in chemical safety, security, and regulation, Mr. Linus Aposu, has welcomed the Regulatory Framework for the Practice of Chemistry in Nigeria (RFPCN) as the bedrock upon which to build a safer, standardised and globally competitive chemical profession in Nigeria.

On Tuesday, August 26, at the Rockview Hotel, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), RFPCN, a policy document for the regulation of the Practice of Chemistry in Nigeria, was gazetted and unveiled. Pharm. Olubunmi Aribiena, Director, Food and Drugs in the Federal Ministry of Health, performed the functions on behalf of Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Minister of State for Health.

According to Mr. Aposu, an Assistant Chief Scientific Officer at the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), the document “establishes clear standards for education, ethics, and practice, ensuring public safety and fostering innovation.”

He explained that the framework will protect the public, empower professionals, and drive sustainable development.

“I am incredibly proud to have played a part in this historic moment for science and regulation in Nigeria,” Mr. Aposu, who served as the Committee Secretary, RFPCN Draft Committee, told TNT.

He also expressed, “Immense gratitude to the Hon. Minister of State for Health and staff members of the Ministry, the Registrar/CEO, and the entire team at the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), and the dedicated committee members,” for successfully delivering on the project.
