Former US Army Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people and wounded 32 others in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, is set to face a firing squad on December 3.
According to an execution order issued by the US Army on Tuesday, October 6, Hasan’s execution is scheduled for 1 p.m. Central Time at Fort Hood, Texas.
Hasan, an Army psychiatrist at the time, opened fire on unarmed soldiers at the military base in November 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others in one of the deadliest attacks on a US military installation.
The execution order follows President Donald Trump’s approval of Hasan’s death sentence after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth recommended that the sentence be carried out by firing squad.
Hasan was convicted and sentenced to death for the mass shooting, which sent shockwaves through the US military and renewed concerns over security and radicalisation within the armed forces.
