Kwande council boss welcomes military formation, says security first

Date:

The Executive Chairman of Kwande Local Government Council (LGC) and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State Chapter, Mr. Vitalis Neji, has described the planned establishment of a military formation in Kwande as a major milestone in the collective effort to restore lasting peace and security in the area.

Speaking after receiving a delegation from the Army Headquarters on an assessment visit for the proposed military formation, Mr. Neji reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of his administration.

“My major priority as the Chairman of Kwande Local Government Council is to protect the lives and property of our people. Security remains the foundation of every meaningful development. My guiding principle has always been: Security First,” he stated.

The Chairman expressed delight over the decision of the Nigerian Army to establish a permanent presence in Kwande, noting that the development would significantly enhance the security architecture of the local government, strengthen ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities, and restore confidence among residents.

He emphasised that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, stressing that every citizen deserves the right to live in peace and pursue their daily livelihoods without intimidation or violence.

Mr. Neji assured the military of the full cooperation and support of the local government and the people of Kwande, expressing confidence that the new military formation would contribute immensely to securing communities, encouraging displaced persons to return home, and creating an enabling environment for agriculture, commerce, and other socio-economic activities.

“No life is worth losing. Every citizen deserves to live in peace, free from fear. Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to make Kwande a safer and more secure place for all,” the Chairman affirmed.
