Political activities by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State must be carried out in due consultation with designated Lead Point Men and Local Government Party Chairmen, the State Working Committee of the broom party has warned.
Last year, the Governor of Benue State, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, appointed 23 Point Men from the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state to oversee party activities in their domains on his behalf.
The Benue APC SWC also distances itself from issuing any directive for the commencement of zoning activities in any part of the state.
Mr. Benedict Yawe, the Benue State Publicity Secretary of the party, says the SWC is concerned about “reports of ongoing zoning exercises in some Local Government Areas and states unequivocally that such activities are unauthorised.”
A statement by Mr. Yawe urged APC members and stakeholders to “disregard any claims or arrangements suggesting otherwise and to await formal guidelines from the appropriate party authorities.”
The statement adds that APC in Benue State remains committed to due process, unity, and internal democracy.
