Troops of the Headquarters 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have neutralised three bandits in two separate operations between December 2 and December 4, 2015, in Taraba State, north-east Nigeria. They also neutralised bandits’ camps, recovered weapons, and arrested “a key suspect linked to criminal activities in the region.”
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, said the operations “demonstrate that no terrain is inaccessible to the Nigerian Army and no criminal enclave is beyond reach.”
He commended his troops for the “professionalism and gallantry displayed by the troops.”
According to a statement by Lt. Umar Muhhamad, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, the troops had on December 2, launched a deliberate clearance operation under Operation Zafin Wuta across Shiid, Agia and Tyozua villages in Takum LGA following credible intelligence on the activities of armed groups within the Tor-Tser general area, leading to the arrest of one suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari.
In another operation on December 4, Lt. Muhhamad said troops, while on a “fighting patrol around Karim Lamido and its environs to deny bandits freedom of movement,” neutralised two armed men, recovered one AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition.
No casualty has been recorded on the side of the troops.
Lt. Muhhamad said the bandits “are assessed to be members of the Karimjo faction responsible for recent attempts at regrouping within the area.”
