IGP orders creation of local Intelligence cells, community threat profiling

Date:

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the state Commissioners of Police across Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to create local intelligence Response Cells and community Threat Profiling to enhance society.

Mr. Egbetokun’s order focuses on making community policing foundational to national security, allowing Commissioners of Police to structurally bind the police to grassroots networks, including traditional rulers, local hunters, and youth organisations.

The IGP also ordered the establishment of Joint Community Safety Forums and Village-Level Rapid Information Channels to signal the police before criminals fortify positions.

“This approach aims to ensure communities recover first from fear, then from crime, creating an environment where citizens feed information freely and discourage criminals socially,” Mr. Egbetokun stated.

He emphasised that terror cannot permanently live among people who are united, with the law enforcement system sworn to protect them.
