PBAT directs withdrawal of police officers as guards to VIPs

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) has directed the withdrawal of police officers providing security for Very Important Persons in Nigeria.

PBAT issued the directive at a security meeting on Sunday, November 23, with the police, Air Force, army chiefs, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abuja, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement.

According to the statement, police authorities will henceforth deploy the affected officers to concentrate on their core police duties.

“VIPs who want police protection will now request well-armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,” part of the statement reads.

Mr Onanuga explained that many parts of Nigeria, especially remote areas, have few policemen at the stations, making it difficult to protect and defend the people.

“Already, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers. The federal government is also collaborating with the states to upgrade police training facilities nationwide,” Mr. Onanguga stated.
