Less than 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Mr Peter Mbah, dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri and PDP lawmakers from the South-South state have resigned membership of the umbrella party.
The Bayelsa State Governor announced the decision to resign membership of the PDP on Wednesday, October 15, at the Bayelsa State Government Executive Council Chamber in Yenagoa, the state capital.
“Today, I have formally resigned my membership from PDP for very obvious reasons,” Mr Diri declared.
“I am not going alone. As you can see, I am here with my speaker, his deputy, and all the members of our party who are going with me. Some are not here because they are on official assignments,” he added.
The governor, however, did not state which party he would be joining.
Mr Diri’s defection from the PDP adds to the growing list of aggrieved stakeholders who had exited the party over its unresolved crisis.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere, along with 18 PDP lawmakers, it is learnt, also tendered their letters of resignation from the opposition party.
