“No Alia, No Benue” implies “No Vacancy in Makurdi Govt House 2027” – Prof. Iornem

Date:

The founder of Mzehemen U Tiv Foundation (MUTF) and advocate of positive communication, Prof. Kohol Shadrach Iornem, has stated that the slogan “No Alia, No Benue” implies that the Governor of Benue State has performed well, so there will be no vacancy in Makurdi Government House in 2027.

Prof. Iornem, who jetted out of the country earlier this week after partipating in the programme of events for the joint Thanksgiving mass for the appointees of Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Governor of Benue State from Kwande who are serving both in the State Executive Council, departments and parastals as well as local leaders asserted that from explainations obtained from various users, the slogan was condensed to make it catchy.

He, however, said, “Sadly, it has been misinterpreted.”

“From their explanations, I believe the slogan was condensed to make it catchy, but sadly, it has been misinterpreted.

“So when you hear them shouting ‘No Alia, no Benue,’ what they are saying is, ‘Alia has done well, so no vacancy,’ Prof. Iornem explained, while implying that it would be foolhardy for a coach to replace Messi or Ronaldo at the beginning of an important match.

As an advocate of positive communication, Prof. Iornem, therefore, suggested the slogan to read: “Yes, Alia, yes Benue.”

According to Prof. Iornem, since the return to democracy (in 1999), Benue State has approached governance in a way that has not resulted in significant improvements.

“However, with Governor Alia’s marverick-styled leadership, we have seen significant changes in just two years. Projects such as the underpasses in Makurdi and Gboko, as well as other road initiatives prioritised by the governor, have improved road safety and reduced traffic congestion. These road constructions also enable rural farmers to transport their farm produce to the cities more easily.

“Recently, a friend living abroad told me that she was very happy that her parents are now receiving their pensions on time. Workers are now receiving their wages on a consistent basis.

“When salaries are delayed, people often resort to other means of survival, including accepting bribes, cutting corners, or being absent from work due to disinterest. This non-payment of salaries makes it difficult for them to meet their basic living expenses, often leading to loan defaults and the humiliation of being pursued by loan companies. The rehabilitation of Benue Links has made transportation costs competitive, forcing private operators to charge reasonable fares for the masses.

“Another trademark of the Alia-led administration is in the area of appointments, putting round pegs in round holes. Look at BIPC, which is creating a lasting impact by partnering with investors and entrepreneurs to grow Benue’s economy and deliver value for the masses.

“Look at BSUTH, which now has over 1,700 skilled staff and cutting-edge equipment—including CT, MRI, mammography, ultrasound, six theatres, and a modern CSSD—now serving Benue people,” Prof Iornem explained.
