Again, Nigeria’s minister resigns over certificate issues

Date:

Nigeria’s Minister for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Mr Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned his position following allegations of certificate forgery.

Allegations of certificate forgery have been levelled against Mr Nnaji since 2023, when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) named him among the first batch of 28 ministerial nominees, two months after taking office on May 29, 2023.

His resignation may not be unconnected with Premium Times’ detailed investigation and revelation of his certificate issues.

Mr Nnaji stated that he has been a target of blackmail by his political opponents. He, however, thanked the president for allowing him to serve Nigeria.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, dated October 7, PBAT has accepted the resignation of Mr Nnaji.

The President thanked him for his service and wished him well in future endeavours, Onanuga said in the statement.

Mrs. Kemi Adesoun, former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Finance Minister, recently resigned from office following allegations over the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) certificate.
