The Wurukum flyover is a gift of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Benue State Governor (Fr.) Hyacinth Iormem Alia,” Minister for Works, Engr Dave Umahi disclosed.
Engr. Umahi, who disclosed this on Saturday, September 13, was in the state for the flagging off of the construction of a flyover over Wurukum Roundabout, which he said “was never in the budget” for the $950 million Makurdi—9th Mile dual carriageway that is under construction.
“This flyover was never in the budget, but it is a gift of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia. It is a gift that he has asked me to give it to you,” Engr. Umahi stated at the flag-off.
The minister praised Fr. Alia for paying compensation for the commencement of the project, saying it shows the governor’s commitment to the project as well as “support and love for Mr. President.”
“This historic project will not only ease traffic congestion within our state capital but also serve as a strategic infrastructure to enhance connectivity between the North-East, South-South, and South-East regions. It is also designed to boost agricultural productivity, facilitate trade, and expand economic opportunities for our people,” Fr. Alia said.
On behalf of the government and people of Benue State, the governor appreciated President Tinubu for graciously granting his request to include the flyover in the Makurdi–Enugu dualisation project and Engr. Umahi for his tireless commitment to bringing the project to life.
“As a State Government, we remain resolute in complementing federal efforts in road development, as demonstrated by our ongoing interventions on the Makurdi–Gboko road and other critical infrastructure projects.
“The Wurukum Flyover will serve as a catalyst for growth and a symbol of the renewed partnership between the Federal Government and Benue State in advancing the welfare of our people,” the governor stated.
