Tinubu’s wife donates N1b for Benue IDPs

Date:

The wife of the President, Sen Remi Tinubu, has donated One Billion Naira (N1b) to help rebuild and resettle families displaced by attacks by armed herdsmen in Benue State.

The president’s wife made the donation during a visit to the state. She expressed her heartfelt sympathies to the governor and the people of the state over the attacks.

Meanwhile, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State, has reiterated his call for the immediate establishment of State Police in the country, pointing out that the present centralised security structure has failed to adequately address the lingering attacks and killings in parts of the country, particularly in Benue State.

“It is time for Nigeria to embrace State Police as a practical and necessary step towards securing lives, property, and peace across the nation,” the governor said.

“The current security architecture has not proven sufficient in curbing the incessant attacks on our communities,” he went on.

According to the governor, a decentralised and locally controlled police force is critical to improving security response, intelligence gathering, and accountability in vulnerable communities.

Fr. Alia, who commended the wife of the president for her visit, said the people of the state were grateful. “The people of Benue State are sincerely grateful. Your visit is not just symbolic; it is impactful and healing,” he stated.
