The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has advised members of the public and media organisations to disregard “unverified claims” that Yomi Odunuga has been appointed as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen George Akume.
Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information & Public Relations OSGF, in a statement issued on Friday, June 11, said the SGF has at no time made such an appointment, nor has any statement been issued from the Director, Information and Public Relations confirming the same.
It emerged on Thursday, July 10, that the SGF has appointed Odunuga as his Special Adviser, a development that was greeted with mixed reactions.
According to Imohiosen, the unverified news “appears to be the work of some individuals with the intent of misleading the public for selfish gains.” He urged the public and media organisations to always “rely only on verified information officially released and duly signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, OSGF.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, appointment of Special Advisers at the Federal level is the sole prerogative of the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” the statement stated.
