Stop intimidating, abusing Nigerians, PBAT warns Police officers

Date:

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) has warned officers and men of the Nigeria Police to stop intimidation and abuse of the citizens they are sworn to protect.

The president who issued the warning during the 2nd Annual Inspector General of Police’s (IGP’s) Award and Commendation Ceremony held in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), emphasised that the power vested in the police must be used responsibly and in service to the nation.

PBAT was represented at the event by the President of the Senate, Sen Godswill Akpabio.

“Be reminded that the power you wield is not for intimidation but for protection. It is not for abuse but for service,” the President said, stressing the need for accountability and professionalism within the Force.

He charged officers and men of the police to “uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of every citizen, and reject all forms of misconduct and corruption.”
