ALGON Chair in Benue leads clearance operation on Lafia-Makurdi Road

Date:

Images shared online show personnel of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) lifting a man at Km45 Lafia—Makurdi Road. At the same time, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State Chapter, and Guma Local Government Council (LGC) Chair, Hon. Maurice Orwough, looks on in what is called a move to “assess the security situation” in Guma.

There have been reports of armed attacks on the road, particularly the Yelewata—Daudu section, and concerned citizens have issued various travel advice.

According to the Personal Assistant to the Benue ALGON boss on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Ernest Tortiv, the Guma LGC Chair, was on an unscheduled visit “to certain areas in Guma to assess the security situation in those areas.”

TNT could not confirm the number of arrests and for which offences, or has OPWS released any statement in connection thereto.

However, Hon Orwough had cried out that “two villages” in his local area are under attack by “Fulani herdsmen.”

Assuring that there is “no hiding place for criminals in Guma,” Hon Orwough vowed that if criminals do not allow locals to have a night’s rest, he will continue to be up so locals can go to bed.
