Nigeria, France Partner to Boost Critical Minerals Sector

Date:

Nigeria and France have taken steps towards strengthening their cooperation in the critical minerals sector. Both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at promoting sustainable mining practices and diversifying the value chain of critical minerals.

The agreement will facilitate collaboration in research, training, and student exchange programs, fostering knowledge and skill transfer. Additionally, both nations will work together to reduce the environmental impact of mining operations, with a focus on mitigating carbon emissions, water consumption, and climate change.

A key component of the MOU is the establishment of joint exploration and processing projects. This initiative aims to diversify the supply of critical minerals, such as copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, and rare earth elements, which are essential for clean energy technologies.

The partnership is also expected to address the pressing issue of abandoned mining pits in Nigeria. By investing in environmental rehabilitation and post-mining projects, the two countries aim to restore affected areas and mitigate their impact on the environment.

This strategic collaboration between Nigeria and France signifies a commitment to sustainable development and economic growth. It is anticipated that the partnership will attract significant foreign investment to Nigeria’s mining sector, creating jobs and boosting the nation’s economy.
