Last Saturday, 26th April, a new leadership for the social-cultural organisation of the Tiv people worldwide, Mzough U Tiv (MUT), Delta State chapter was inaugurated, with Comrade Solomon Tar Gendaga, as the President.
The event, which was held at the KFT Conference Centre Warri, also served as a fund-raiser for purchasing a bus for the Delta State chapter of MUT. Esteemed guests from far and wide graced the event.
Under the new leadership, Michael Agu is the Vice President; Henry Terungwa Iorhuna is the general Secretary; Asema Tordoki is the treasurer; Timothy Tsav is the assistant Secretary; Taave Dooorun is the Financial Secretary; Jerome Uga is the assistant Financial Secretary; and George Saater Kajiva is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) 1.
The others are Philip Teryila Adal, PRO 2, Terhemen Paul Anum, Welfare/Organising Secretary, and Fater Benjamin Joguno, Provost.
High Chief Reginald Amadi, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Amareg Global Concept Limited, who chaired the occasion, called on the Tiv people in Delta State to rally around their new leaders for optimum development.
Delivering a keynote address, His Eminence Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, Tor Tiv, highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage and promoting unity among the Tiv, especially now that Tiv communities are under unprovoked attacks by terrorist herdsmen.
The Tor Tiv, who was represented by the President General (PG), MUT Worldwide, CP Iorbee Ihagh (retd), therefore commended MUT Delta State for what he described as uncommon unity and the efforts of the leaders and members for development. He, therefore, promised to support the growth of the union.
In an acceptance speech on behalf of the Executive Council, the President of MUT Delta State Chapter, Gendaga, expressed gratitude to God for life and promised to lead the state chapter to an enviable height. He also appreciated dignitaries for coming to show support and solidarity while calling for prayers and support from all.
The ceremony was marked by Barr. Ahile, MUT Legal Advisor to the Chapter’s Executives, administering the oath of office.
Other special guests present included Engr. Peter Madiefe, Engr. Amos Ovaukpore, Engr. Thomas Torakaa, Tyoor Tiv Delta, representatives from various kingdoms in Delta state, representatives from different local government areas in Delta State, Prince Samson Tingir, High Chief Isaac Duku, Jar Jonathan, Engr. Isaiah Ahulah, CPC Chairman, among others.
Dignitaries were treated to a colourful display of Tiv culture, including traditional music, food, dance, and decorations in Tiv cultural attire.
