Ushongo Chair apologises, seeks support for LGA development

Date:

The Executive Chairman of Ushongo Local Government Council (LGC) of Benue State, Mr Terkimbi Adzu, has apologised to the people of the local area for what he described as shortcomings in the discharge of his responsibilities, urging residents to unite behind efforts to develop the council.

Council chairs in Benue State on Wednesday, September 7, marked two years in office, having come to power in 2024.

Mr Adzu, in a thanksgiving message, said his emergence as chairman was a product of divine grace and the support of Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Governor and numerous individuals who contributed to his political journey.

He acknowledged that leadership comes with enormous pressure, challenges and expectations, admitting that there had been times when he fell short of the people’s expectations.

“Those times I fell short of the candid and common-sensical expectations of the people, the times I lived short of the responsibilities of my office, I unreservedly apologise,” the chairman said.

According to Mr Adzu, such shortcomings were neither deliberate nor planned, but products of “the frailty and fragility of humanity.”

The chairman also commended those who had criticised his administration constructively, saying their interventions had helped to improve governance. He equally expressed gratitude to his supporters, council staff, politicians, voters, family, friends and other stakeholders for their contributions to his administration.

Mr Adzu said even his critics and political opponents had, in their own way, strengthened him and given him greater motivation to pursue a legacy that would stand the test of time.

He expressed particular appreciation to Fr. Alia for the confidence reposed in him, describing the governor’s mentorship and support from members of his administration as valuable to his service to Ushongo.

The chairman called on the people of Ushongo to regard the development of the local government as a collective responsibility, stressing that political offices were temporary and that the support of the people remained critical to any leader’s success.

“Ushongo is our collective responsibility. Positions are tenure driven and our support is the reason for leaders’ success stories. Kindly be a part of Ushongo’s success story,” Adzu appealed.
