Mellifera partners with MOAUM on commercial Beekeeping

Mellifera Foods Ltd., Makurdi, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Centre for Conservation Science and Practice, Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU), Makurdi, for commercial Beekeeping.

MOAU says in a statement that the partnership aims to promote commercial Beekeeping and sustainable honey production.

Mellifera Foods Ltd boasts of specialities in the bulk supply of pure, natural, and unadulterated honey, as well as the engineering and fabrication of beekeeping equipment, consultancy, investment and training.

On Tuesday, July 7, Director of the Centre for Conservation Science and Practice, Dr Stephanie Mdzuami Avar-Tsue, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Mellifera Foods Ltd., Mr Peter Ter, were at the MOAU Zoological Garden where five beehive boxes were installed as part of the partnership.

“The exercise marked the official commencement of the University’s commercial beekeeping project and laid the foundation for its future expansion,” the Directorate of Information, Protocol and Public Relations of the University said in a statement.

According to Dr Avar-Tsue, the installation of the beehives is a significant milestone in the Centre’s efforts to diversify its conservation initiatives and create opportunities for research, practical training, and income generation.

She explained that the project is designed to support biodiversity conservation, strengthen environmental sustainability, enhance students’ experiential learning, and contribute to sustainable agricultural development in Benue State and beyond.
