Former Admiralty President, Prof. Shilgba, heads task force on USAT

The Governor of Benue State, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has appointed former President/Vice-Chancellor of Admiralty University, Ibusa, Prof. Leonard Shilgba, as the Chairman of the Task Force for the take-off of Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (UAST), Ihugh.

TNT understands that the task force is expected to provide strategic direction and put in place the necessary structures, policies, systems, and resources to ensure the effective take-off of UAST.

Prof. Shilgba was inaugurated alongside members of the task force by the governor on Wednesday, June 17, at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.

Fr. Alia said UAST is more than a physical institution and represents a strategic investment for the future of the state while serving as a critical platform for empowering youth through education, innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.

“The university is more than a physical institution. It is a strategic investment in the future of Benue State and in the dreams of our young people.

“We are building a solution-driven institution that will produce graduates who will create jobs, establish businesses and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our economy,” the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Sir Tersoo Kula, quotes the governor as saying in a statement.

Dr Johnson Echor, Registrar at UAST, will serve as the secretary of the 12-member task force.

Dr Leonard Karshima Shilgba, a professor of mathematics, was educated at Government Secondary School Alu, Government Comprehensive Secondary School Ugba, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Yokohama National University, Japan.

He is a former chairman of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
