Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has said there is no vacancy for the office of Deputy Governor of Benue State.
The governor’s declaration may have put an end to speculation in some quarters that Fr. Alia is considering replacing his deputy, Dr Sam Ode, with another candidate.
Fr. Alia and Dr Ode were elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) joint ticket as Governor and Deputy in 2023. The governor has won the APC reelection ticket ahead of the 2027 Benue Governorship election.
Speculations about the governor parting ways with his deputy became more pronounced following continued skirmishes generated by supporters of Fr. Alia, on one hand, and Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), on the other.
Those who held the view cited Dr Ode’s ties with Sen. Akume to conclude that the governor would not allow him to return.
However, speaking at the Government House, Makurdi, after the APC Governorship Primary election, the governor made it clear that there was no vacancy for the position of his deputy.
