Imo: Catholic priest shoots boy over fireworks during New Year Mass

A Catholic Reverend Father in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area (LGA), Imo State, reportedly shot to death a boy during the 1st January 2025 New Year Mass.

Vanguard reports that the boy was shot for allegedly setting off fireworks within the church premises.

The report neither disclosed the identity of the priest nor the boy.

On Wednesday, a post shared on Facebook through the ‘For The Love Of Anambra’ page says, “The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, with residents expressing outrage and demanding a thorough investigation to uncover the facts behind the unfortunate event.”

Another Facebook user, Buka Tee, wrote, “Please let there be a proper and comprehensive investigation regarding this matter. It should not be swept under the carpet. It’s highly and gravely disheartening.”

Malachy Chukwunyereugo wrote, “He will spend the rest of his life in prison.”
