The Ushongo Local Government Council (LGC) Chairman, Mr Terkimbi Timothy Adzu, has emerged as the winner of the Nigerian Local Government Development Award, earning him the plaque for “Outstanding Local Government Chairman in Nigeria.”
Mr Adzu received the award, which was presented by the representative of the Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration in Collaboration with Global Gold Consults Ltd., during a two-day workshop organised for 774 Local Government Chairmen in Nigeria in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Pundits say the award is a testament to Mr Adzu’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to the development of the Ushongo Local Government Area (LGA) in Benue State and Nigeria.
The Ushongo LGC boss was praised for transparency, accountability, and commitment to the interests of the people of Ushongo LGA.
He appreciated the Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration and Global Gold Consults Ltd for acknowledging him as worthy of the award.
Mr Adzu expressed gratitude to God and to the Governor of Benue State, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, who, he said, has provided him with the necessary support and enabling environment to utilise the responsibility given to him as the Executive Chairman of Ushongo LGA for the good of the people of Ushongo LGA.
He therefore dedicated the award to the people of Ushongo LGA, whom he said have trusted him to lead them in this era of the “Alia generation.”
Prince Agema Charles, S Assistant to the Chairman on Media, Communication and Strategy, said the workshop was held under the theme: The Nigerian Tax Act 2025: Implications for Fiscal Federalism, Local Government Autonomy, and Internally Generated Revenue of Local Governments in Nigeria.
It could be recalled that only recently, the people of Mbayegh, Ushongo LGA, honoured Mr Adzu for his outstanding achievements in office and the significant contributions he has made to the development of Mbayegh during his short tenure.
They highlighted several milestone projects undertaken under the leadership of the Chairman to include the restoration of electricity supply to Ushongo Town; the ongoing construction of the counter-funded Mbayegh–Mbagwaza–Tsambe Road; the payment of several months’ salary arrears of teachers of Mbakyaa Community Secondary School; the remodelling of the Ushongo Local Government Secretariat; the restoration of power supply to the secretariat and surrounding areas; the provision of electricity to Tyo-Gbenda Msa covering Mbaaka and Mbaanyam wards; the rehabilitation of dilapidated roads; and the overall spread of holistic development across the local government area.
The people of Mbayegh explained that beyond infrastructural development, the Chairman has demonstrated humility and compassion in leadership, remaining accessible to the people and attentive to both their collective and individual needs.
