The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the Chairman and two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Katsina-Ala Branch, who allegedly blocked the Katsina-Ala-Wukari highway, causing severe traffic disruption that triggered a fatal crash.
DSP Udeme Edet, spokesman of the Command, in a statement issued on Saturday, November 29, confirmed “a tragic multiple motor vehicle accident that claimed nine (9) lives and left several others injured on 28th November, 2025” on the Katsina-Ala highway.
The Chairman of the NURTW Katsina-Ala Branch, Aja Vanger, and two members, Stephen Kahungur and Saater Vihiga, who allegedly caused the obstruction, have been arrested and are currently in custody, DSP Udeme said in the statement.
“They will be prosecuted upon completion of the investigation,” she informed.
According to the statement, victims were rushed to Toro Hospital, Katsina-Ala, for treatment, while deceased bodies were deposited at the General Hospital in Katsina-Ala.
According to the Police, blocking highways is a criminal offence that endangers public safety and attracts severe legal consequences.
“Individuals or groups involved in such acts will face the full wrath of the law,” DSP Udeme warned.
While expressing the Benue State Police Command’s sympathies with the affected families, DSP Udeme urged “all road users and transport operators to prioritise safety, obey traffic regulations, and avoid actions that endanger lives.”
