Women Police @70: Benue command visits orphanage home

Women Police from the Benue State Command, Nigeria Police, have visited Mama Abayol Ophanage home, bearing gifts as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of Women policing in Nigeria. They also visited some retired female police officers.

Nigeria began recruiting women into the Police in 1955, with Maryamu Baba as the first.

Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, declared the day a historic milestone celebrating courage, service, and the evolving contributions of female officers to national security.”

According to a statemenr by DSP Udeme Edet, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, the three-day event, held from 26th to 28th November, showcased a rich blend of engagements designed to honour the legacy of women who paved the way in the Force, highlight the achievements of present-day female officers, and inspire the next generation of women in law enforcement.

The commemoration of Women Police at 70 began with a lecture to women police officers, reflecting on the significant role women have played in shaping policing in Nigeria.

Key activities included a 5km walk against Gender-Based Violence and visits to retired female police officers by the Benue State Women Police.
