Dr. Doo Mercy Iornem who was recently awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Public Governance and Leadership, has said her goal is to open up opportunities for leadership training and mentorship programmes for re-orientation in the minds of Nigerians.
Dr. Doo was awarded a PhD in Public Governance and Leadership by the University of Abuja, Nigeria, on November 14, 2025. Her PhD thesis was titled: Assessment of Public Sector Leadership in Benue State and Economic Development (2015-2025).
She told TNT that studying leadership provided her with “the skills to motivate others, create a positive culture, and develop actionable frameworks for effective governance and business.
“With public governance, ultimately, it will help me contribute my own quarter to national development.”
Commenting on her doctoral research experience, Dr. Doo said her “major take home was the leadership youth clinic.”
“I got a clear understanding that leadership trainings can prepare individuals with the skills and frameworks that enable you to become good with the moral standards in public service.
“I want to educate Nigerians that leadership training can prepare individuals with the right skills and frameworks to be a more effective leader,” she explained.
The Ushongo-born authority in Public Governance and Leadership, therefore, said she is motivated to pursue worthwhile goals that “can be achieved through effective and purpose driven leadership where Nigerians see themselves as a tool to serve and not what they can gain.”
