B. Sc. AI, 12 other new programmes approved for Nigerian universities

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 13 new programmes to the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) for Nigerian universities.

NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, in a communication dated October 22 and addressed to all Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, stated that experts from the areas drawn from the Nigerian university system participated in the development of the 70 per cent component of the programmes earlier this year, in March.

He listed the approved programmes to include B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence; B.Ed. Christian Education; B.Sc. Human Kinetics (Sport Management); B.Eng. Geomatics; B.HLIS Community Health Science; B.Sc. Intelligence and Security Studies; B.Sc. Islamic Economics and Finance, and B.Sc. Parasitology and Entomology.

Others are B.Sc. Telecommunication Science, B.Sc. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, B.Sc. Cooperative Economics and Management, B.Sc. Nuclear Science, and B.Eng. Nuclear Engineering.

The Commissioner urged Nigerian universities that wish to include the programmes in their offerings to commence implementation, effective the 2025/2026 Academic session, following the Resource Assessment Visit.
