The Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup campaign remains firmly on track, albeit through the demanding playoff route, following a commanding 4-0 victory over Benin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Star striker Victor Osimhen delivered a sensational performance, bagging a hat-trick (goals in the 3rd, 37th, and 51st minutes) that provided the necessary goal-difference boost for Nigeria. Substitute Frank Onyeka rounded off the emphatic win with a crucial strike in the 90th minute.
The impressive win secured Nigeria the runner-up spot in Group C. However, automatic qualification was sealed by South Africa, who also claimed a comfortable victory in their final match.
The dream remains alive!
Nigeria will now advance to the CAF playoffs, having qualified as one of the four best second-placed teams across the continent. To secure their place at the 2026 World Cup, the Super Eagles must now win four straight matches across the next two international windows.
The road ahead is tough.
