The Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup campaign remains firmly on track, albeit through the demanding playoff route, following a commanding 4-0 victory over Benin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

​Star striker Victor Osimhen delivered a sensational performance, bagging a hat-trick (goals in the 3rd, 37th, and 51st minutes) that provided the necessary goal-difference boost for Nigeria. Substitute Frank Onyeka rounded off the emphatic win with a crucial strike in the 90th minute.

​The impressive win secured Nigeria the runner-up spot in Group C. However, automatic qualification was sealed by South Africa, who also claimed a comfortable victory in their final match.

​The dream remains alive!

Nigeria will now advance to the CAF playoffs, having qualified as one of the four best second-placed teams across the continent. To secure their place at the 2026 World Cup, the Super Eagles must now win four straight matches across the next two international windows.
