2025 Day of Peace: Benue Assembly pledges support for peace

Date:

The Benue State Assembly is committed to “everything” that will promote peace in the state, Speaker of the state assembly, Rt. Hon Alfred Emberga has said.

Rt. Hon Emberga stated this when the Benue Commission for Peace and Reconciliation, in collaboration with SPRiNG and other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), marched on the assembly as part of activities marking the 2025 Day of Peace.

The speaker commended the commission and CSOs in the state for working towards achieving peace in the state.

Dr John Tor Tsuwa, Deputy Director for Peace and Development Studies at Father Adasu University (formerly Benue State University), Makurdi, said that no sacrifice is worth more than that for peace.

According to Dr Tsuwa, the day calls for concrete action from everyone to mobilise for peace, as he encourages people to speak out against violence and inequality, and to embrace diversity in building a more harmonious world.

As part of activities marking the day, a novelty match was played between Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and peace ambassadors in the state.
