The Benue State Assembly has suspended the members representing the Kyan State Constituency, Hon. Terna Shimawua, and four others. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State, is from Kyan State Constituency and is represented in the state assembly by Hon Shimawua.
The other suspended members are Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako (Konshisha), Hon. Isaac Ochikeliye, Hon. Mathew Damkor (Tiev), and Hon. Moses Egbodo. All five are members of the House of Standing Committee on Local Government, Security and Chieftaincy Affairs, which has Hon. Shimawua as Chairman.
They were suspended for three sittings for allegedly covering the truth about the misappropriation, abuse of office, and closure of the Otukpo Local Government Legislative Chamber by the Otukpo Local Government Council (LGC) Chairman to protect him from punishment.
It could be recalled that the House mandated the committee to investigate alleged misappropriation of local government funds and abuse of office by the Otukpo LGC chair, Hon. Maxwell Ogiri.
The House, however, said they deviated from the real findings in their assignment and constituted a five-member ad hoc committee headed by Hon. Peter Ipusu to further investigate the allegations against Hon. Ogiri.
