Nigeria’s presidency: Wait for 2031, SGF begs northerners

Date:

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen George Akume, has appealed to northerners to wait until 2031 when they will contest for the office of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Sen Akume made the appeal on Tuesday in Kaduna, Nigeria, while giving his remarks at a two-day Interactive Session on Government-citizens’ Engagement. The event was organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation under the theme: “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-citizens’ Engagement for National Unity.”

The SGF, who said the North is dear to him, stated that the region “will be eligible for the Presidency in 2031, not 2027.”

“I say this because I love all of you; we love all of you. Let us not do something that will undermine our territorial integrity, and tomorrow, people may be tempted to support others against us,” the SGF cautioned.

Sen Akume noted, in apparent justification of his appeal, that “Nigeria will not cease to exist” (any time soon).
