The Executive Director, Mzehemen u Tiv Foundation (MUTF), United Kingdom (UK), Prof. Kohol Iornem has said MUTF stands in solidarity with Prof. Zacharys Anger Gundu, leader of Tiv Professionals and Vice-Chancellor, University of Mkar Mkar (UMM), over his comments on insecurity in North Central Nigeria.
Prof. Gundu had, during a town hall meeting recently by the Newscentral TV, accused Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State of providing a safe haven, refuge, and taking the lands of his citizens and giving them to foreign “Fulani” terrorists.
Mr. Sule’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji, SAN, on behalf of the governor, reckons the comments by Prof. Gundu describe Engr. Sule, as a sympathiser, protector, and enabler of the armed bandits who have wreaked havoc on Benue State, is calling for a retraction and apology or risk litigation.
Prof. Kohol, in a solidarity statement in support of Prof. Gundu and made available to TNT, said, “Professor Gundu has bravely spoken truth to power regarding the genocidal attacks on the Tiv people by Fulani bandits, who use Nasarawa as a base for their violent incursions into Benue communities. These attacks are not isolated incidents; they are part of a prolonged and systematic campaign of displacement, terror, and occupation targeting the Tiv and other indigenous groups in the Middle Belt.
“Mzêhemen u Tiv UK finds it deeply troubling that, instead of addressing these serious allegations and the humanitarian crisis they reveal, Professor Gundu is being threatened with litigation in an attempt to silence the plight of the Tiv people.
“Mzêhemen u Tiv UK will not remain passive while one of our most respected intellectuals is dragged through the courts for defending his community.
