The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has refuted claims that all the papers written during the recently concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in 2025 have been cancelled.
On 19th July, it emerged that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had cancelled the said examinations because of widespread malpractice, coordinated leakage of question papers, and digital dissemination of examination materials.
However, WAEC, in a statement issued by Mayosola Adesina of the Public Affairs Department, said, “The said examinations have not been cancelled.”
According to the statement, “The false claim is being paddled by mischief-makers who are bent on bringing the Council to disrepute to cause confusion and panic among candidates who sat for the examinations.”
The examination body, therefore, urged stakeholders and the general public to disregard claims that the WASSCE for school candidates in 2025 has been cancelled.
