The Managing Director (MD)/Chief Executive Officer, Benue Digital Infrastructure Development Company (BIDC) Plc, Mr. Terwase Hembaor Gbande, has disclosed that the first batch of BDIC-branded laptops, all-in-one desktop computers, projectors, and power banks are due to arrive in Nigeria in August 2025.
Last year, BDIC and ITS Technology Shenzhen, China, entered into a partnership to support the state’s digital infrastructure goals and its flagship education technology programme. According to Mr. Gbande, the partnership followed Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State’s visit to China, where BDIC strategic partnerships were established to fast-track the digitisation and diversification of Benue’s economy.
“The shipment is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria by August 2025, marking a significant milestone in implementing Benue State Government’s ‘One Student, One Digital Skill, One Computer’ initiative.
“This policy aims to provide students across the state with personal access to digital tools and skills development opportunities, positioning Benue as a leader in inclusive education and digital empowerment in Nigeria,” Mr. Gbande told TNT.
He explained that the manufactured products have undergone all necessary quality assurance protocols and received full certification from Nigeria’s regulatory authorities, including issuing the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) certificate.
According to Mr. Gbande, the milestone directly results from Fr. Alia’s “strategic foresight and unwavering commitment to building a digital Benue. These devices are not just computers but catalysts of innovation, youth empowerment, and 21st-century education across the state.”
Mr. Gbande informed that the second phase of the agreement will soon kick off and involves the establishment of a BDIC Computer Assembly and Manufacturing Plant in Benue State.
“Slated for completion over the next two years, this facility will domesticate the production process, enhance local capacity, create employment opportunities, and further drive regional industrial growth,” the BIDC boss explained.
