Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) has renamed the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) as Muhammadu Buhari University.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga says PBAT announced the honour at the session of tributes of the Federal Executive Council to the former president.

PBAT succeeded Buhari in 2023, after the latter served two terms as Nigeria’s President.

Buhari, a former military administrator, minister, head of state, chairman of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF), died in a London clinic on July 13. He was buried on July 15 in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

Located in Maiduguri, Borno State, UNIMAID was established in 1975. Buhari was the military administrator of the north eastern state in 1975.
