The much-anticipated judgment in the legal battle between Senator Gabriel Suswam and Senator Emmanuel Udende over the Benue North-East APC senatorial ticket may be delayed as the Federal High Court considers the implications of a recent Supreme Court ruling.
The judgment was initially scheduled for Monday, October 12, at 9am. However, the court is expected to hear the adoption of fresh written addresses before deciding whether to deliver its verdict or adjourn.
Last Wednesday, the court directed the parties to address it on the implications of the Supreme Court’s recent judgment in INEC v. Zenith Labour Party.
Both parties reportedly filed their written addresses on Friday, with adoption scheduled for Monday morning.
Speaking to The New Times (TNT), Jirgba Terfa Jirgba, Esq., said the court could deliver judgment after the adoption or fix another date at its discretion.
The development has cast uncertainty over Monday’s scheduled verdict, as the court weighs the legal implications of the Supreme Court’s decision before determining the matter.
While judgment remains possible on Monday, the additional proceedings suggest that the parties may have to wait longer for the court’s final decision.
TNT will continue to monitor proceedings and report further developments.
