You have up to March 30 to resign, Fr. Alia tells appointees seeking election

Date:

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has asked his appointees who are interested in running for office in the 2027 general elections to resign from their current positions by March 30 at the latest.

The governor said he is determined to maintain the state’s development tempo and would not want anyone to delay any process that would yield results in that regard.

According to the election timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party primaries are to be held between April 23 and May 30.

A statement issued by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor on March 20, the governor said the earlier those who want to contest in the election tender their resignation letters, the better, as it will give him a clear direction to get others who will fill their positions for continuation.

The governor also emphasised the need for all people of genuine mind for development to join hands with him to sustain the state’s development tempo.

“When you see earthmoving machines working on our hitherto dilapidated roads, that is development. When you see civil servants going to work and closing happily, that is development.

“I have started, I am midway, and I am more determined to do more because that was my covenant with the Benue people. I cannot tender apologies to anyone because I am developing Benue state.

“My covenant was with the people of Benue State. My attention is on how to make them happy. How to rewrite the story of the state for good. Therefore, nothing can deter me; nobody can frustrate me to abandon this,” the governor stated.
