The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile all the party’s stakeholders in a latest move to put an end to all disputes and restore the party to good political health as the 2027 general election draws nearer.
This is contained in a communique presented by Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the BoT, on Wednesday, March 11. The BoT convened after the Monday, March 9 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Judicial Division, invalidating the November 15 and 2025 National Convention that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of the PDP.
According to the 11-point communique, “the BoT is disturbed by the avoidable internal leadership disputes and wranglings leading to damaging litigations with consequential detrimental effect on the unity and smooth running of the PDP as the major opposition party in the country.”
Although the board rejects the appellate court’s judgment, it says it will explore the window provided in the judgment for reconciliation within the party.
Conscious of the interest and aspirations of PDP members who are desirous of contesting various positions in the 2027 general elections, the BoT therefore constitutes a special Committee to immediately interface with the legal teams and other stakeholders to foster reconciliation.
While acknowledging the support, loyalty and solidarity of Nigerians towards the PDP, the BoT “urges Nigerians not to be dispirited but remain hopeful as the PDP works hard in repositioning itself” to take back power from the APC.
BoT therefore called on all leaders and members of the “party to jettison all personal and group interests and come together as one family in the overall interest of our Party and the well-being of millions of Nigerians whose hope is anchored on the PDP.”
