The founder of Mzehemen U Tiv Foundation (MUTF), Prof Kohol Iornem, has commiserated the people of Kwande over deadly attacks on Mbachoon community, Turan, Kwande Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State.
Local sources say armed herdsmen launched deadly attacks against the community beginning with the Wednesday, March 5, attack on Mbaav and the Thursday night attack on Mbachoon, leaving scores killed with others injured.
The attackers are said to have gained access to the communities by crossing the River Katsina-Ala.
A statement by the Prof Kohol Iornem Media and Communications Directorate said the Kwande/Ushongo House of Representatives aspirant also expressed shock over the confirmed death of Sir Festus Terkura Iorkyaa, President General of Turan Development Association (TUDA).
It’s a critical time for the Turan communities and the entire Kwande land, the statement said, calling on relevant government and security authorities to take decisive action to avert further attacks.
Meanwhile, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Governor of the state, has condemned in “strongest terms the brutal killings in Tyungu Jam and Mbaav communities in Yaav and Mbadura Council wards of Kwande Local Government Area, which left 12 innocent people dead and several others injured.”
Chief Solomon Iorpev, Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, has said in a statement that the governor has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
The governor assured that his administration is committed to ensuring the security and safety of all citizens and will not be deterred by resistance from those opposed to peace.
