US President Donald Trump has said a deal is “beyond very close” after Gaza peace talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington DC.
It is learnt that Hamas officials in Doha have been informed of the proposal released by the White House.
If Hamas rejects the plan or doesn’t follow through, Netanyahu says Israel “will finish the job.”
According to Trump, Netanyahu will have full US backing to “do what he has to do” if Hamas does not agree to the plan.
The 20-point plan, TNT learnt, proposes an end to military operations, a release of Israeli hostages by Hamas, and the immediate delivery of aid to Gaza.
Hamas, according to the proposal, will have no role in governing Gaza, leaving the door open for an eventual Palestinian state.
The plan also includes a “board of peace” to oversee the proposal’s implementation, led by Trump, who says former British Prime Minister Tony Blair also wants to participate.
Several peace packs have not yielded positive results in the past, and it is unclear if this will bring an end to the war.
