Sora Heights Gboko best and top scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from Benue State, Miss Doose Naswem is aiming at studying Software Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
MIT, a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was founded in 1861 and is renowned for its focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Highly selective, with very low acceptance rate and known for its rigorous academic environment and groundbreaking research, MIT also offers programmes in humanities, arts, and social sciences.
On this year’s International Youth Day, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State, announced a scholarship for Miss Naswem to study in any university of her “choice in the world.”
Miss Naswem has made a number of firsts in her journey to completing her secondary education including 1st position in Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) – national contest (2024); 1st position STAN (State finals 2024); 2nd position Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN) Olypiad State Finals (2024); 2nd Position Essay Writing (BENSEFAC 2024); 3rd Position MAN Olympiad National Quiz (2024); 8 A1s in the November GCE 2024/2025; Gold Medalist African Mathematics Olypiad (2024); top 10 in UTME 2025 in Nigeria; and Best in UTME in Benue State 2025.
Speaking on the choice of MIT, Miss Naswem said “I have seen their work” and because “education is interactive,” she reckons MIT will provide her the “space to be creative and to really step up in software.”
