Police in Makurdi launch investigation into murder of varsity student

The Nigeria Police, Benue State Command, has commenced a detailed investigation into the killing of Emmanuella Ahenjir, a student of the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, by an operative of the command.

A statement by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, says the command’s Commissioner, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, PhD, has ordered a detailed investigation into the case.

TNT gathered that a police bullet caught Emmanuella at the Wurukum area of Makurdi, leading to her death.

However, according to the police statement, CP Emenari has vowed “to unravel the truth and ensure that the rule of law prevails.”

According to the statement, the police were on the trail of a vehicle in which the deceased was travelling at about 10:00 am on Friday, the time of the incident.

The statement adds that “one Mr. Apase Keghter, who was also an occupant of the vehicle,” told the police “that they had gone for club activities at Newcastle Event Centre and were on their way back when they drove on the opposite lane and passed the checkpoint without stopping, but did not shoot.

“They were shot by the police but they drove to Welfare quarters with the victim. They stopped when they noticed a flat tyre and called a commercial vehicle that took them to the hospital. His belongings, the exhibit car, and other occupants of the said vehicle are nowhere to be found at the moment.”
