UK MP charged over sexual assault to appear in court June 16

Central Suffolk and North Ipswich Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) Patrick Spencer, who has been accused of sexual assault, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 16th June.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the MP has been charged with two counts of sexual assault that allegedly took place at London’s Groucho Club in August 2023.

The BBC reports the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as saying it had authorised charges relating to “two alleged incidents involving two separate women” at the private members’ club.

According to the report, “Patrick Spencer has since been charged with two counts of sexual assault and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 June.”

The 37-year-old Spencer was not elected into parliament at the time of the assault.
